Vintage lion head emblem turned into chain belt/necklace

Instagram shot: Vintage lion head emblem turned into chain belt/necklace

Once again, Poshmark (#shopmycloset) has proved a place to find sweet little treasures at unbeatable prices! I bought a small lot of vintage findings that had fallen off old clothing such as an authentic Chanel zipper pull, two genuine Chanel buttons, and this adorable lion head inspired by the iconic Chanel Lion. I have plans to have the two buttons professionally made into rings by a local jeweler and to possibly turn the zipper pull into a brooch/pin to wear on lapels and scarfs.

I lucked out when I was ready to create something new with the lion head, it already had two rings on the back of it that the chain easily fit through. (If not, I probably would have had to take that one to the jeweler too.) To create this piece, I simply bought gold chain ($10 for 5 yards in Downtown LA on Maple Ave.) and strung it through the loops on the back of the lion head. Wanting to have some more detailing, I decided to add in two more layers of chain for the back of the belt using small craft pliers. I was finished within minutes thanks to my days of making feather earrings!

Viola! I have made a gold vintage inspired belt for myself, which if I say so myself, looks amazing with a tailored little black dress! Best part about this DIY is that it can easily be changed into long statement necklace!11628_4508921364261_1150140408_n

Why I Love “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

Holly Golightly, if only we lived in the same world, and believe me I’d gladly transport myself to 1960, we would become the best of friends! Audrey Hepburn set my standards pretty high when it comes to dressing to go out – I mean this is a woman who dressed up in pearls, a luxurious Givenchy black dress, full gloves, and a tiara just for breakfast! And remember that amazing wide brimmed hat with the incredible ribbon she wears to “give the weather report” to her mobster friend Sally Tomato at Sing Sing?

I love Breakfast at Tiffany’s for a very simple reason – Audrey Hepburn and the way she lived her life. The fact is that Holly Golightly didn’t let others take control of her life – she lived it just as she pleased – tassel earplugs and all! (get yours here!) She tested social norms by not naming her cat, believing that it didn’t belong to her as a pet but that it had its own life to live and it wasn’t her place to get in the way of that. She wasn’t afraid to share her outspoken viewpoints with anyone.

She tested social norms in ever aspect, even her taste in furniture – she had a bathtub for a couch! (Want one too? Found on Etsy here!)

Moreover, she dressed the way she wanted  to and didn’t allow either event nor locations dictate her wardrobe. She knew what she loved and went for it. Just having that kind of courage is rare, no matter what era you live in. Just check out her pj’s: a tuxedo shirt, Tiffany blue eye mask with embroidered eyes (eyelashes and all! get yours here!), and don’t forget her signature tasseled earplugs. Speaking strictly fashion, I have to say that I first fell in love with the classic LBD and pearl combo when introduced to Breakfast at Tiffany’s by my HS best friend, Vicki, in our sophomore year. (Thank you!!!)

As the popular vote goes, my favorite outfit is definitely her debuting black dress with full length gloves, tortoise shell sunglasses, sparkling tiara, and of course the pearls upon pearls. Next up is her orange coat with the dark fur hat she wears out on the town with her friend “Fred” the gigolo, played by George Peppard. Weren’t they a pair? Her playing the part of Manhattan high society girlfriend to the top of citys’ men, him spending time with the friendliest of women in the city, swearing not to fall in love with anyone but only in it for the benefits of a wealthy life. And by the end of it all, (SPOILER ALERT!) they are embracing in a rainy alleyway sharing moments of a re-examined life and looking as if they have found true love. Aren’t their matching trench coats just adorable? And so timeless!

If I remember correctly, I do believe they crossed even when they weren’t supposed to – love her spirt of individualism! (Get coat here)

Now I’m not too sure about you, but I definitely let event details, locations, and social pressures get to me, and yes, I’ll admit, I allow them to dictate my choice of clothing. That’s not cool – I don’t want to keep living like that. Do you ever feel this way? I’m betting you do…I encourage you to watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s and become empowered by Holly to be the woman you are, and take control of your life in all ways. I’m taking a step forward to stop being controlled by the social acceptance of who to be and what to wear to specific events, locations, and what people expect you to be clothed in. I know what I like and I’m going to wear it, furthermore, I know who I am and I’m going to be the best possible version of myself, no one else. Won’t you join me in taking a stand? It’s important to me that I am able to live life to the fullest, so why not follow in a great woman’s footsteps – believe me, Audrey Hepburn’s just the kind of woman I want to be.

Sweet – Confident – Strong.

Eloquent Woman Magazine Party in Pasadena, CA
Wearing: Vintage dress, Charles David booties, Forever 21 hat, & Target sunglasses! :)

Forever 21 hat bought on sale for only $5!

Alex and I before the Party for Eloquent Woman Magazine’s Launch of the second issue.

This outfit made me feel like the chic Fashion Editor I know I am. :) Sometimes it’s hard to be a start up company, like we are at Eloquent Woman Magazine; but when all’s said and done and we have our product out on the table with people coming to celebrate our creation and success, it feels great! Working a day job, having a personal venture, and then building a start-up magazine with a team isn’t easy folks, but we press forward knowing there’s strength in numbers.

The outfit that I wore to our party in Pasadena was a vintage find from De Ja Vu Fashions in Claremont. The dress is vintage, not sure of the label it’s pretty worn, the shoes are vintage Charles David lace up oxford booties with pointed toes, my boyfriend’s grandmother’s clumped pearl and gold clip on earrings, and the big floppy felt 70′s inspired hat was bought at Forever 21 (such a steal)! I spent under $20 for this look by attending the De Ja Vu Fashions BAG SALE. You show up early in the morning to scour through bins of vintage treasures (bags, shoes, garments, accessories…everything!) out on the patio and you fill a paper grocery bag with all you can fit in for only $20! I scored the dress, the Charles David shoes, a pair of heels by Guess, and a couple of other fun garments as well…all for only $20. If I do the math it probably cost me around $3/item – now that’s an amazing deal! Thank you De Ja Vu Fashions!

In June we published out second issue of Eloquent Woman Magazine featuring one piece swimwear and the power of the versatile white blouse, as shot by yours truly. See some of my favorite photos from the shoots here:

Chic one piece swimwear under $100 editorial shot in Malibu beach.

Elaine & Amelia were such a blast to work with – love you ladies!

Kerstin Lechner, as seen on Project Runway Season 10, modeled for our black and white editorial featuring the versatile white blouse. Even more beautiful in person! (MY FAVORITE SHOT!)

What a great lacy tank by WISH as modeled by Kerstin Lechner for our Summer Issue in studio in downtown LA!

What I’m Wearing: Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson Pumps: 5.5″ of sexy cutouts and color-blocking!

I most recently added these incredible platform pumps to my collection. They are by far the most adventurous shoes I now own. Yes, much more adventurous than say hiking boots (which i actually don’t own haha!)…..I mean come-on, it’d be a hell of a crazy time trying to hike a mountain in these bad boys! :P They are 5.5″ high, have a huge chunky platform, super sexy cutouts with elastic across the top in black; the platform’s aqua base is suede, the dark blue and hot pink swirled cutouts are shiny & smooth leather. Walking around in these for me is such a breeze….they have the greatest amount of minimal cushion (on the toe pad and at the heel) so it doesn’t look bulky, but it lets my soles feel comfy – not to mention I’ve had some practice in walking in 5 inch heels!

I’m completely in love with these pumps, not only for the fact that they are ultra sexy and colorful, but they instantly turn me into a giant fashion monster. Translation: “I’m only 5’5″ barefoot, when I slip these on, I suddenly am towering at 5’11″, which is definitely a new height for me!” Seriously my legs are perfectly toned and miles long, my butt gets a nice lil lift (just keeping it real – you know it happens to you too & you love it!), and I no longer have to get on my toes to kiss my 6-foot hunkin’ boyfriend. – Oh I wonder if he realllly reads my blogs….haha, we’ll find out! -

I bought my first pair of platform pumps just 6 months ago….they were GUESS leopard print & black glossy leather, peep toe 5 inch heels. Since then, I have failed to fall in love with a heel that doesn’t have a platform! Sure I see ‘regular’ high heels and I think they’re cute…I try ‘em on and I just don’t get the same adrenaline rush of growing 5″ in a split second…it’s just not the same. Although platforms aren’t the most practical shoe in the world, in my opinion they are the most beautiful…and fun to wear!

Jackie O. knows how to wear hot pink - she wins my vote!

I’m so excited!!! Style Mint is having a giveaway of some of their most popular Tee’s – to win, all you have to do is vote for your favorite First Lady’s style. You can do so here at their Facebook page. It’s as easy as flipping through the album and commenting on your favorite picture. They will be picking random winners by choosing one commenter from each photo. Hint: comment on all of them and you increase your chances of winning!

Here’s some of the fantastic First Lady’s fashion photos you can vote for: Jackie O., Nancy Reagan, and Michelle Obama are certainly some of my favorites. Who’re you voting for?

Nancy Reagan always dressed with such class - the striped sweater with while collar peeping out make me smile!

Michelle Obama knows how to rock modern styles while still keeping it classy.

She's never looked better than she does in full color!

The way she dresses with the trends makes it so much fun to check out what she's wearing!
