Do you have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear? I know the feeling! Around the first of the year I usually do a full cleanse of my closet and jewelry in order to make room for my new “Christmas clothes” and prepare for the upcoming change in seasons and trends. It became tradition that my mom would take my sister Jessie and I out shopping for clothes as gifts every year but we would of course have to wait until Christmas morning to open them again. I’d spend weeks dreaming of the garments I picked out, planning how to match them with what I already have, and then the morning of I’d be surprised by a few of the pieces I’d completely forgot about! Ah I love the holidays! But of course I’d have to make room for these new pieces to fit…and so began a new tradition of the “Closet Cleanse”!
In the past I’ve donated to Goodwill, shared with my younger sisters (I have two!), and even sold my clothes to second hand shops like Crossroads Trading Co. (in Pasadena, CA) and Plato’s Closet (in Colorado Springs, CO when I lived there a few years ago). I like the idea of giving a garment new life by either donating or selling to a shop where hopefully another girl will fall in love with it! This year I’m trying a new method of cleaning out my closet – I’m selling my clothes online through my new favorite site: Poshmark.

Currently for sale in my Poshmark closet
Poshmark is an iPhone app for girls like me who want to share the love of gently used fashionable items and be able to make some money for their unused clothing. This app is a lot of fun because it allows me to put up items for sale in an “instagram style” – they give you filter options for your “cover photo” of a listing. Selling with Poshmark is incredibly easy! They take care of all the behind the scenes details like payment processing, shopping, and getting your earnings to you.
My favorite feature about Poshmark is that you can throw a “Poshparty” where you and your friends (& followers…who let’s face it, are pretty much like your fashion friends!) can shop each other’s closets in a specific style or theme. Many times other bloggers have thrown parties by designers or style. My favorite parties include designers and styles like Kate Spade, JCrew, preppy, chic and cheap, Michael Kors, Chanel, LOFT, black and white, and of course all the wonderful shoe parties! Poshmark is a great way to shop other fashionable friend’s closets and share your own pieces in a sociable setting white being able to make some cash off of your cute clothes! I’m extremely excited to have been invited to host a Poshparty in the coming weeks – will definitely update on details!
To list an item is FREE and when your item sells Poshmark takes only 20% to cover the transaction fees and keep themselves up and running. After you’ve sold your items you can either use your earning as credits towards a new purchase or cash out at any time!
Pros & Cons of POSHMARK: Pros: Free to list, reaches many people, and you are able to search by style and find curated fashion parties. Cons: 20% commission is taken out when you make a sale (really not a big deal but it’s good to know!), only available on iPhones currently, & in order to get some of the best deals you have to spend a bit of time searching and negotiating with sellers.
Thanks to the Poshmark team I was able to sell off a lot of my closet by being featured as one of the “suggested users” last week. I grew from just 200 followers to 54,000+ in just 3 days! Thank you POSHMARK! :) Everyone should definitely try out Poshmark – it’s a great way to get some cash for your unused items and to find more clothes to fall in love with at unbeatable prices! Here’s some of my items that I’ve successfully sold on Poshmark:
