Recently I’ve been loving my large statement tassel earrings by LA designer Melissa Velia! (worn above: “At The Opera Earrings” in black) I met her at Project Ethos in Hollywood this year during LA Fashion Week. Her gorgeous spring/summer ’12 line was walking in the show. I wanted to share with you where to get her FAB designs! She has a darling Etsy shop where you can buy up the rest of her Summer line as she makes room for her Fall ’12 designs. Everything is on sale right now – some over 50% off!

I love this Circle high-low skirt with gold nail-head details around the waist. You can find it on sale in her shop for ONLY $25! it was $54.00…This rich color will transition well through this next season and into spring 2013 as well. You can also find the silky sheer tank top with bow front tie in her shop for only $16 (was $28). Local designer garments for such a low price – gotta love it! Also in this photo you can see the model is wearing the “At the Opera” earrings in vintage gold. She makes them in golden yellow, deep maroon, and in signature black. I personally love the black the best, but it’s really the overall design that I love most! They remind me of Audrey Hepburn‘s tassel earplugs in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (my most favorite fashion inspired flick)! Wearing these earrings make me feel so fanciful and royal almost! For only $25 these earrings will add such class to your wardrobe and literally transformed entire outfits in just seconds as they have mine! Check out my blogger friends below wearing Melissa’s earrings:

Most recently it was my extreme pleasure to have my first rooftop photoshoot in downtown Los Angeles with my dear friend Heather Petrey of LaFashionSnob.com! I’m so excited to share my experience with you all! A rooftop shoot has been on my bucket-list for a while now, so I’m just filled with joy that we finally made it happen! :)

We spent the better part of our day pulling gorgeous pieces from Chic Little Devil Style House (http://cldstylehouse.com/) - an amazing PR firm in DTLA. Their showroom was filled with racks upon racks of gorgeous garments, glittering accessories, and full walls of shoes! Not to mention all the stylish ladies working hard in heels….on Macs! I loved it, seeing all the ladies with their individual style, yet uniform in the glowing apples on their desks. – Apple products of all shapes and sizes are a common passion Heather and I share!! – Remember ‘The Devil Wears Prada’? And when Andy – Anne Hathaway – has her style makeover? Remember how excited you were when you saw rows and rows of gorgeous garments, walls of shoes, and drawers upon drawers of incredible accessories? Take all that excitement and turn it into a real life experience and you will understand how we felt walking into CLD! A huge thank you to CLD for allowing us to have a fun afternoon in your showroom and shoot on your balcony – you guys ROCK! :)

CLD is known as LA’s largest Style House with “over 50,000 designer garments, accessories, and shoes from over 200 top designers (from couture to contemporary to vintage).” Now tell me that isn’t every girl’s dream closet!? Needless to say, we played dress up! We spent a little over half an hour going through just a tiny section of their showroom showing much love to the Gypsy Junkies rack! (http://www.facebook.com/GypsyJunkies) It was all Heather’s style today, so we pulled a lot of vintage inspired, Coachella festival, bohemian styles – perfect for the warm Spring weather!

I really loved getting to spend some time with these garments – seriously almost not a thing I wouldn’t wear on the Gypsy Junkies rack! Heather obviously felt the same way: we created 15 looks from them and a couple  other designers: Love Marks, Luichiny, & BodyRock.  Check out some of the looks:

Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market wearing Forever21, Target, & vintage scarf & sunglasses with my steal: $7 vintage suitcase!

It’s pretty typical of me to be on a flight sitting next to a stranger, end up having a full conversation with them, and then never introducing myself properly. I feel I have done so again! HA… Well, hello, I’m Kate – the girl behind the dream of being a ‘real’ fashion blogger. I want to thank you all for following me and supporting my dream! Here’s a little more about me, more than just my clothes…

1. What inspired or motivated you to start your blog? I enjoy freelancing as a photographer doing family portraits and events but wanted to share my creativity in a more universal sense – so I started photographing fashion. I realized I had more to say than just a simple caption when it came to style – so I just let myself go with it!

2. How did you decide on the format and style of your blog (i.e. Styling outfits and posing for the camera)? Ahhh to be honest, I’m still trying to figure out what I like best! Mostly I do my own photography with either my iPhone or my Canon 30D on a tripod….which I tell you isn’t that easy! As for posing…I just try to be as natural as possible – don’t notice the camera but let it notice me?

I need to make her skirt! (photo by lafashionsnob.com)

3. Where do you currently reside? Where would you ideally like to reside? I currently live just outside of Downtown LA in the Pasadena area – it has a more cultivated indie fashion scene. Although I’ve never been, I believe I’d do well in any costal European country – France and Italy are certainly places I can dream myself into!

4. What is your must-have article of clothing or accessory right now? I’m swooning over mermaid-esque accordion pleat flowing skirts – I saw a girl in Phoenix wearing one…and once I got back to LA I saw the same fabric at Michael Levine’s and started planning my own design!

Fedora @ Target: $12

5. If you were stranded on an island and had only one fashion item to your liking, what would it be? I think a fedora would suit me well – it’s practical and cute!

6. What are your favorite fashion and style blogs right now? One of my best friends, Heather Petrey blogs at http://LAFashionSnob.com - so I’m always checking out her site and we like to trade photography services ha! I always love watching Native Fox to see what new trends she’s following or starting! http://thenativefox.blogspot.com/

7. What do you like to do when not blogging about fashion? Eating lots of chinese food, catching up on my Netflix & Hulu queues, and sewing!

8. All that blogging must take up a lot of energy. What is your favorite food to munch on in order to provide you with your Super Blogging Powers? Ah man, now I’m thinking of Chinese food after that last one. HAHA! But my favorite blogging snack food would have to be Cheez It’s!

9. Favorite Designer: I have two- and they are SO different from each other! Chanel will always be my first love: I’m classy and sophisticated. But I love Betsey Johnson for her out of the box thinking and colorful combinations because she allows me to stick to the classic cuts yet venture out into patterns and colors!

Cheez-it's are the ultimate snack for blogging and sewing! :) just like my grandma carol that way!

spending time with my boyfriend is my favorite: this is him with me at an event for Versace in Beverly Hills!

here's a recent sewing project I completed: black and white "Love City" Alexander Henry print as pillow cases with hot pink silk on the back.

Heather & I @ Steak n' Cakes (I'm wearing h&m boyfriend fit buttonup & target fedora with chanel earrings)

The first weekend in March, Heather Petrey of LaFashionSnob.com and I woke up super early, jumped in our car, and drove 6 hours to see Caroline Monick, a French women’s wear designer, launch and show her first collection at Phoenix Fashion Week. We didn’t really plan too much of the trip, other than going to the show at MIM (Music Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ). So we were excited to just enjoy the adventure!

On our way out to Phoenix, we stopped in a little town just short of the California/Arizona border for some lunch. Heather had read about this little ma & pa diner called “Steak & Cakes”. To me, right away I’m like ‘heck yea let’s go there…..steak annnnndcakes? okay!’ Once we got there I realized my appetite was sorely overestimated. I ended up order just a grilled cheese and fries. [Gallery not found]

Nonetheless I enjoyed my little snack of a meal very much. The thing that stood out most to me about this joint was the service. I go to ma and pop places hoping to get away from crowds, to support real people instead of just a corporation, and in hopes of great service from people who know what it is to work hard and make a name for themselves. I was very happy to be greeted by a waitress who seemed genuinely interested in every customer she served. At one point I even saw her sit down with an older gentleman, who after hearing their conversation, I presume is a ‘regular’. I love that! I look forward to visiting again when we go out in the fall for the full Phoenix Fashion Week.

What I’m Wearing: Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson Pumps: 5.5″ of sexy cutouts and color-blocking!

I most recently added these incredible platform pumps to my collection. They are by far the most adventurous shoes I now own. Yes, much more adventurous than say hiking boots (which i actually don’t own haha!)…..I mean come-on, it’d be a hell of a crazy time trying to hike a mountain in these bad boys! :P They are 5.5″ high, have a huge chunky platform, super sexy cutouts with elastic across the top in black; the platform’s aqua base is suede, the dark blue and hot pink swirled cutouts are shiny & smooth leather. Walking around in these for me is such a breeze….they have the greatest amount of minimal cushion (on the toe pad and at the heel) so it doesn’t look bulky, but it lets my soles feel comfy – not to mention I’ve had some practice in walking in 5 inch heels!

I’m completely in love with these pumps, not only for the fact that they are ultra sexy and colorful, but they instantly turn me into a giant fashion monster. Translation: “I’m only 5’5″ barefoot, when I slip these on, I suddenly am towering at 5’11″, which is definitely a new height for me!” Seriously my legs are perfectly toned and miles long, my butt gets a nice lil lift (just keeping it real – you know it happens to you too & you love it!), and I no longer have to get on my toes to kiss my 6-foot hunkin’ boyfriend. – Oh I wonder if he realllly reads my blogs….haha, we’ll find out! -

I bought my first pair of platform pumps just 6 months ago….they were GUESS leopard print & black glossy leather, peep toe 5 inch heels. Since then, I have failed to fall in love with a heel that doesn’t have a platform! Sure I see ‘regular’ high heels and I think they’re cute…I try ‘em on and I just don’t get the same adrenaline rush of growing 5″ in a split second…it’s just not the same. Although platforms aren’t the most practical shoe in the world, in my opinion they are the most beautiful…and fun to wear!

Photo credits go to my good friend Heather Petrey of LAFashionSnob.com – Check out her incredible Fashion Blog too!! (thank you!)
