Eloquent Woman Magazine Party in Pasadena, CA
Wearing: Vintage dress, Charles David booties, Forever 21 hat, & Target sunglasses! :)

Forever 21 hat bought on sale for only $5!

Alex and I before the Party for Eloquent Woman Magazine’s Launch of the second issue.

This outfit made me feel like the chic Fashion Editor I know I am. :) Sometimes it’s hard to be a start up company, like we are at Eloquent Woman Magazine; but when all’s said and done and we have our product out on the table with people coming to celebrate our creation and success, it feels great! Working a day job, having a personal venture, and then building a start-up magazine with a team isn’t easy folks, but we press forward knowing there’s strength in numbers.

The outfit that I wore to our party in Pasadena was a vintage find from De Ja Vu Fashions in Claremont. The dress is vintage, not sure of the label it’s pretty worn, the shoes are vintage Charles David lace up oxford booties with pointed toes, my boyfriend’s grandmother’s clumped pearl and gold clip on earrings, and the big floppy felt 70′s inspired hat was bought at Forever 21 (such a steal)! I spent under $20 for this look by attending the De Ja Vu Fashions BAG SALE. You show up early in the morning to scour through bins of vintage treasures (bags, shoes, garments, accessories…everything!) out on the patio and you fill a paper grocery bag with all you can fit in for only $20! I scored the dress, the Charles David shoes, a pair of heels by Guess, and a couple of other fun garments as well…all for only $20. If I do the math it probably cost me around $3/item – now that’s an amazing deal! Thank you De Ja Vu Fashions!

In June we published out second issue of Eloquent Woman Magazine featuring one piece swimwear and the power of the versatile white blouse, as shot by yours truly. See some of my favorite photos from the shoots here:

Chic one piece swimwear under $100 editorial shot in Malibu beach.

Elaine & Amelia were such a blast to work with – love you ladies!

Kerstin Lechner, as seen on Project Runway Season 10, modeled for our black and white editorial featuring the versatile white blouse. Even more beautiful in person! (MY FAVORITE SHOT!)

What a great lacy tank by WISH as modeled by Kerstin Lechner for our Summer Issue in studio in downtown LA!

Exciting local news this week! Nordstrom Rack in the Ontario Mills Mall had a Grand Re-Opening! They have given their store a contemporary facelift and filled it with lots of pretty designer clothing with the perfect sale prices! They have added an exterior entrance, perfect for just popping in without having to deal with the rest of the mall for when you’re in a rush. Additionally, they have added their own section for parking with tons of new trees planted around the lot.

Opening Day at Nordstrom Rack @ Ontario Mills

Expanding and relocating  the Forever 21 and Burlington Coat Factory as well as adding in Sports Authority have all been apart of the plan to enhance the shopping experience at the Ontario Mills Mall. The thing that I love most about the Nordstrom Rack brand is that they offer designer labels as well as popular name-brands at a huge discount. Literally, every piece that comes into their doors has a discount off the original price, sometimes up to 80% off! Not to mention they also have their own “clearance section”! This is an easy way to stay up to date and be able to indulge in wearing high quality, popular, designer clothes without breaking the bank. As a young working woman, I appreciate what Nordstrom Rack stands for: quality with accessibility for all.

As I walked in the doors, the DJ to my right had on some great music – upbeat, energetic, and full of pep. I couldn’t help but smile when I realized this felt like a movie scene…dressed up girl on a shopping trip, perfect energy boosting music to make the scene, and of course all the glorious garments right before my eyes! When you first walk into Nordstrom Rack at Ontario Mills you will be greeted by shiny new handbags from Kate Spade, Steve Madden, Betsey Johnson, and many more coveted designer labels! I even found a black patent leather Burberry satchel in the clearance section for less than $80! Now that’s a Genius Deal! If you are a Twitter fan, whenever you shop at Nordstrom Rack, feel free to tag your instagrams and tweets with (#geniusdeal ) to share with the rest of the world your amazing deals found at your favorite Nordstrom Rack.

My favorite part about the Grand Re-Opening at Ontario Mills for Nordstrom Rack was that now you don’t have to wait in any lines to checkout. Long live the “I can’t believe how long this line is” conversations between you and fellow shoppers…now it’s “Wow I can’t believe that was so fast!” They have started to impliment a new system called “On the Spot Checkout” for when you’re ready to checkout you simply find a sale associate on the floor and they check you out right on the spot! It was easy to spot a sales associate in their fun bright green tops, and when I did she was ready to help me check out in a matter of 2 minutes. They have, what look like iPhones, with scanning capabilities that ring up your fashionable finds in seconds and automatically emails your receipt to you. Not only is it fast, easy, but it’s good for the earth too! I couldn’t believe how fast it was, I was in shock and literally asked, “Is that all?” And it was! Such a unique upgrade; one that most Nordstrom Rack stores and starting to pick up on. Now if only the rest of the industry picked up on this…Christmas shopping would be a breeze!

Burberry satchel: #geniusdeal $80!

I am a handbag and shoe fanatatic! If my salary could afford it, my closet would be filled with more Jimmy Choo’s, Kate Spade’s, and Chanel’s than you could imagine. Alas, my bank account cannot support such a dream…yet! So I thank God when I find amazing deals (especially those under $100) at Nordstrom Rack! Here’s some of my favorite shoes I found:

Nine West leopard print heels for only $49.97

Metallic boat shoes for only $59.90

Platform oxford heels in neutrals under $100

Marco Santi snake print mary-janes for only $34.97

Leopard print flats with bows by Me Too under $50

Patent Leather Oxford Loafers under $39.90

Nine West classic black patent leather heels under $50

While at the Grand Re-Opening I wore a lovely fall inspired number found at Crossroads Trading Company in Old Town Pasadena, CA. The skirt was only $8 by H&M and the top by Ann Taylor for only $12! The boots ($30) and necklace ($10) were a gift from my favorite Aunt Trisha, by way of Forever 21! :)

Top: Ann Taylor // Skirt: H&M // Boots & Necklace: Forever 21

When shopping, I like to look for practical pieces that will benefit my closet for more than just this current season. I look for pieces that can transition well from summer to fall and on through winter and spring, while keeping in mind that I can pair the new pieces with others from my existing wardrobe. As practical as I try to be, I am still a dreamer – and rightfully so, we should all allow ourselves to dream and have fun! I still enjoy trying on a $$$$ shoe even if the price doesn’t fit as well as the heel.

For this trip I did have an objective piece I wanted to get: an outfit for a downtown LA wedding that very evening for a dear friend of mine. It was an evening wedding so that meant black is an acceptable norm. It also meant that I might need a sweater of sorts because we planned on going out later that evening after the wedding celebrations with friends. (Not much worse than walking down the streets on downtown LA looking amazing in a designer dress (that you got a crazy deal on at Nordstrom Rack!) but shivering because you forgot your sweater!) I was so lucky to find a Juicy Couture dress in my size at the clearance rack for, get this, only $10!

Juicy Couture dress scored at Nordstrom Rack for only $10! #geniusdeal

I was so excited when I found this dress that I actually turned to a woman next to me and very excitedly said, “Oh my God, can you believe it? I just found a Juicy Couture dress for only $10!” As if she were an old girlfriend on a mission with me to find the perfect dress for the wedding later that night, she enthusiastically rejoiced with me by flashing a huge smile my way and saying, “Wow you are really lucky! Great find!” I was so lucky enough to also find a navy blazer with dueling gold buttons down the front for only $40 by Willow & Clay, as well as a sequined gold/silver party dress for only $14!

Willow & Clay blazer scored for $40 at Nordstrom Rack (as posted on POSE – FOLLOW ME!)

I also tried on a couple other great dresses looking for a nice wedding outfit.

Cynthia Steffe at Nordstrom Rack – wearing this made me feel like Lilly Bass from Gossip Girl — LOVE her! :) The dress was gorgeous, but just didn’t fit exactly how I felt it should for my body.

Badgley Mischka dress on sale for less than $200 #geniusdeal
I really loved wearing this silky smooth dress but found it to be too close to white and there’s no wearing white to a wedding.

Wedding outfit plans aside, this dress is just too cute! I couldn’t pass up a “makes you feel like a princess” sequined dress, so I bought it! (by Way In) $14 #geniusdeal from Nordstrom Rack

Thank you Nordstrom Rack of Ontario Mills for inviting me to preview you amazing store on its Grand Re-Opening! I enjoyed seeing all the shiny new products and finding some genius deals of my own by way of a Juicy Couture dress, Way In dress, and my new favorite Willow & Clay blazer! Looking forward to getting back soon to scoop up some of those shoes!

Recently I’ve been loving my large statement tassel earrings by LA designer Melissa Velia! (worn above: “At The Opera Earrings” in black) I met her at Project Ethos in Hollywood this year during LA Fashion Week. Her gorgeous spring/summer ’12 line was walking in the show. I wanted to share with you where to get her FAB designs! She has a darling Etsy shop where you can buy up the rest of her Summer line as she makes room for her Fall ’12 designs. Everything is on sale right now – some over 50% off!

I love this Circle high-low skirt with gold nail-head details around the waist. You can find it on sale in her shop for ONLY $25! it was $54.00…This rich color will transition well through this next season and into spring 2013 as well. You can also find the silky sheer tank top with bow front tie in her shop for only $16 (was $28). Local designer garments for such a low price – gotta love it! Also in this photo you can see the model is wearing the “At the Opera” earrings in vintage gold. She makes them in golden yellow, deep maroon, and in signature black. I personally love the black the best, but it’s really the overall design that I love most! They remind me of Audrey Hepburn‘s tassel earplugs in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (my most favorite fashion inspired flick)! Wearing these earrings make me feel so fanciful and royal almost! For only $25 these earrings will add such class to your wardrobe and literally transformed entire outfits in just seconds as they have mine! Check out my blogger friends below wearing Melissa’s earrings:

Don’t forget to READ 21st BIRTHDAY IN VEGAS PART ONE!

My birthday weekend was so fun-filled that I couldn’t share my excitement over the trip in just one post! So without further ado….day two of my 21st birthday Las Vegas adventures! Like all party hard kids, we slept till noon, donned our sunnies, and hit the pool. After grabbing a little breakfast, of course, via the European inspired Bellagio Cafe where I enjoyed a delicious apple muffin! The Bellagio has such a beautiful European air about the entire hotel and casino, it’s really so inspiring to be transported to a new place and time just by walking through the doors.

I love that in Vegas different themes for every shop & restaurant is completely normal! :)

After a long night of playing Barbie turns 21 in Vegas, my feet were exhausted! Seriously though, I love wearing heels…but I don’t know how the Vegas girls do it day in and day out – props to you ladies! Laying out by the pool with my boyfriend and one of my best friends was a perfect way to spend the afternoon. Of course it’s well over 100 degrees outside and we’re practically scorching the bottoms of our feet every time we make a dash for the pool from our lounges! I can now officially say I understand why Pina Coladas were invented – oh the perfect pool companion by far (except you Baby!!)! We enjoyed sitting in the pool sipping the day away picking out different languages we’d hear and try to imitate their accents! Oh I love that about Vegas…there’s such an array of people! And I tell you, there are far and few between fashionistas that really know what their doing in that city! I understand that you have to dress for the weather….ie shorts and tank tops for 100+ weather, but come-on! If we can all just wear clothes that actually fit us right!!! (okay, I’ll save that little rant and hopefully transform it into a positive and helpful post for picking out proper fitting clothing!) At any rate, the afternoon was a very relaxing way to prepare for another night of festivities!

Exploring the Bellagio Pool Gardens before soaking up some sun for ourselves wearing Forever21 dress & Old Navy flip flops.

Jeff & I on our way to the Cirque show. Wearing: Anthropologie dress bought at Crossroads Trading Co. in Pasadena, CA with Melissa Velia tassel earrings.

After cleaning up in our extremely large and lavishly decorated beautiful bathroom, Jeff and I headed off to see Mystere, a Cirque Du Soleil show at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino. We decided to drive over and park at the Venetian and walk to the show from there. I tell you, whoever decided that a zig zagged 14 story parking structure was a good idea was an idiot! Besides practically loosing our minds over the parking situation, we were running a little late, and I mean literally running…Can you believe it, I ran in 5 inch heels! Really adorable leopard print peep toe pumps by Guess, mind you! Getting complimented on my cute dress by a very sweet couple gave me my second wind to get us to the show on time! :) After getting lost inside the Venetian for a minute we finally found our way to the ticket counter to grab our front section seats with literally a minute to spare! With my “Bunny” next to me, a Heineken in hand, and an entire world of dance, musical interpretations, and artistic acrobatics unfolding before my eyes I was transported into a whole new atmosphere. I have had dreams all week of the show…replaying it in my head, each act one by one all filtrating in and mixing with each other so that the acrobats become dancing musicians while the soundtrack of the show plays endlessly in my mind. It was all so tantalizingly beautiful – so mysterious. I am a huge fan of Cirque shows now to say the least. (I cannot wait to see Iris here in LA this weekend!!)

After a mind-blowing show we were greeted by a crowd of party go-ers flooding into  Kahunaville, a known party bar in Vegas. “Free shots at the bar!” We didn’t hesitate to sit down and enjoy a great meal of sweet tropical eats and a couple of “Kahuna-sized” frozen margaritas.

Mango-Banana for Jeff & Strawberry for me!

Strawberry Margarita for the Lady in Red!

The night went on to bring us to a couple different slots and of course we ended up at our favorite – Roulette. We enjoyed our night very much and happily went to bed before 4am this night. Overall, the entire trip was amazing – staying on the strip at the Bellagio, hitting up the biggest party in the nation at Marquee Nightclub, experiencing a real live Cirque show, and of course spending the entire weekend with my boyfriend! Just can’t wait to get back soon! Thank you Bunny for such an amazing trip for my golden birthday – you’re amazing!

xo Kate

Alex & I @ Hyde nightclub @ The Bellagio

21 on the 21st of July! That’s right my golden birthday has finally come! Last weekend I spent my birthday celebrating in Vegas with my lovely boyfriend and one of my very best friends, Alex. Jeff treated me like the birthday princess by spoiling us with a suite at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino overlooking the most famous Bellagio Water Fountain right on the Vegas Strip! (Thank you Bunny! xo) We all had such an amazing time! Check out our gorgeous room:

We drove out early Saturday morning while listening to my “Vegas 21″ playlist, which included my recent favorites by Rihanna, Kimbra, LMFAO, David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas, and of course Pitbull! We stopped for a birthday lunch of In-N-Out before crossing the border to NV to grub on some of the best burgers ever! Once in Vegas we checked in to The Bellagio, got our bearings and got right to party-time! Maybe it’s silly, but being asked for my ID for the first time and knowing that I was “of age” made me smile really big…even if it was only for signing up for the M Life Players Club!

Shortly after arriving I ordered my first drink: my favorite beer, Heineken. I know now that I’m definitely an imported beer kind of girl with Heineken, Corona, Dos Equis, and Guinness being among my favorites. Of course there were a few cocktails mixed into the weekend as well…including a Kahuna-sized (think fishbowl!) frozen strawberry margarita on Sunday. Saturday night we went to The Venetian for an italian birthday dinner at Trattoria Reggiano. I find that I most often choose to have italian cuisine on my birthday – it truly is one of my favorites! This year I celebrated with the house’s signature dish: spaghetti with filet minot meatballs. OH MY GOODNESS! I don’t know how I’ll be able to eat another meatball after that one, they’ve definitely set the bar high now! Eating at Trattoria Reggiano was a fun experience because it’s really a smaller restaurant, with limited seating and close tables that really brought on a true Italian feel to it. With the tables overflowing from the small corner restaurant and out onto the cobblestoned walk of the Venetian’s classic rendition of Venice, Italywas all around you. That’s definitely my favorite part of the Venetian: the painted ceilings, the cobblestoned path, and of course the gondola rides in the open canal in the middle of it all! Such an atmosphere was created, really I didn’t feel like I was in Vegas at all!

Oh! I have to tell you of a new (and fun!) birthday tradition I’ve created for myself in recent years! It all started a couple of years ago, around my birthday, when I was out shopping with Jeff at the Irvine Spectrum (can you say ahhhmazing!). Inside Forever 21, I am as always perusing each and every rack of pretty little things, and I come upon this cute sheer floral on white sleeveless. As I run my fingers through the sheer fabric colored with bright purples, pastel pinks, brilliant blues, and bits of yellowed green, I think to myself, “This is what I want to wear for my 18th birthday.” And from that year on, I’ve decided to treat myself to a “birthday dress” specifically dedicated to wear on my birthday.

This year, I created a style board in anticipation of shopping for my perfect birthday dress. I chose a gorgeous teal number as you can see above, for my ultimate inspiration. I set my heart on shopping for a dress closely resembling this one, but fell in love with a smokin’ hot pink minidress instead. Once I tried it on, I knew I was done looking! Plus, after looking at the weather report for Vegas (107 high & 88 low!!) I decided sleeveless would be a better alternative than the blue inspiration dress. Of course I had to have the right bag with the dress, so I picked a sparkling silver sequin oversized coin purse at Forever 21 along with the dress. I knew a clutch wouldn’t be practical as we planned to hit the nightclub scene later in the evening, so I easily transformed it into a cross-body purse by attaching a thick but lightweight pink chain I had at home. Voila! I also daringly wore my 5.5″ Jessica Simpson multicolored pumps to complete the outfit, after Alex realized the pink in the shoes & dress were a perfect match! It was simply meant to be!

@ The Marquee nightclub @ The Cosmopolitan – Vegas’ #1 club!

My favorite part of the night was by far at the Marquee nightclub inside the Cosmopolitan! The Cosmopolitan alone is gorgeous – pink and black with sparkles everywhere! I think last time I was there I described it as “Barbie threw up in here”. HAHA – but in the best ways of course! As you can see, I’m no stranger to Barbie Pink, as it is one of my favorite colors. If you’re looking to party hard in Vegas, I’m telling you, there is no better place than The Marquee. I could easily spend my whole night dancing there to be honest and skip the rest of the clubs. They have a huge main floor (The Boombox) for the headlining DJ complete with smoke & lights all around and a wall of lights with girls on balconies dancing all night long. They actually have 3 dance floors in total: the main floor for electric/dance music, downstairs floor for hip-hop & rap live DJ’s,  and an additional outdoor floor by the pool that plays a mix of everything. We really enjoyed ourselves here – didn’t get back to the room until nearly 4am. Definitely on my list for “when in Vegas”.

Playing my first slots at The Bellagio

Ready to head out to the clubs! We went to Hyde in The Bellagio & Marquee at The Cosmopolitan

@ the Cosmopolitan I found a huge pink heel! :) We match!!

With lots of parmesan cheese!

Since it was such an amazing weekend and so much was happening I decided to do this post in 2 parts. Please check out the second part of my Vegas celebrations soon!
