Blowout by: Jessica @ The Dry Bar (style: Cosmopolitan)

Don’t you just love getting pampered? I do…especially when it doesn’t require my whole paycheck! Between getting a blowout at The Dry Bar in Pasadena (only $35!) and a mani/pedi combo at Dashing Diva (promise to write a review on them too so you know the inside scoop!), I know how to spoil myself without breaking the bank. The Dry Bar (on Lake Ave. in Pasadena right by Lemonade – some of my favorite yummy eats!) has become one of my favorite little luxuries these days. I am what they call a “BarFly”, someone who frequents the The Bar; I even have a BarTab! (BarTabs at The Dry Bar are basically packages of blowouts that you can buy all at once at a discounted price. (See more on pricing here.) It’s the way to go! It’s an addicting pleasure, so why not set yourself up and save some money while indulging in a little “make me pretty time”!

Pasadena location: Cute storefront with lots of windows for great natural lighting inside!

NICE SHOES welcome mat is my favorite! See inside? It totally looks like a bar!

Such a nice way to be welcomed….with fresh flowers!

Front window display with “Butercup” upsidedown yellow hairdryer “mascot” …be sure to look out for the cute light fixtures made from these inside too!

Day three of a blowout from The Dry Bar…yes if you try to not sleep on your hair it will totally last up to 3 or 4 days depending on if you touch up with a curling iron later! Wearing: Ann Taylor blazer, F21 lace top, Guess jeans, & Charlotte Russe booties.

I have naturally straight, flat hair so getting a blowout totally changes the way I look…and feel! They have a range of different styles to suit any hair type or style preference. Because I have straight hair I go for the big  curly styles like The Cosmo with lots of loose curls and The Mai Tai for fun messy beach waves. My favorite look is a combo between the two called a “Cosmo-Tai!”

Of all the blow out bars I’ve seen and tried I love The Dry Bar because they have the BEST PERKS:

1. They serve you alcohol as if you’re at a real bar! Of course, they specialize in the girly drinks, but hey, it fits! I always order champagne…or a mimosa if I go first thing in the morning. Did I mention it’s free? Yea…no extra charge!

2. Wash is always included! I never feel bad about coming in on day three of not washing my hair because I know they’ll always wash me up before styling at no extra charge! After all, you need wet hair to be blow dried into a style! They use the yummiest smelling products by Moroccan Oil and L’Oreal.

3. There’s always great music playing and a chick flick on the flat screen TV for everyone to see while you get your hair done!

4. Bar Tenders take care of everything for you! If your street parking meter runs out, the super friendly “Bar Tenders” (I love Ryan & Anna!!! follow them on Instagram! @xoxo_ak & @rdmouchet) will run out and take care of it for you! (Be kind and TIP them too, not just the stylist!)

5. Everyone is so friendly! Seriously every stylist I’ve ever been blessed to have do my hair here has been so friendly and interesting to talk with!

The “Need to Know”s:

1. Make an appointment & show up on time! I suggest scheduling an appointment simply because this spot is popular; especially Friday/Saturday. I always book my appointments through the iPhone app “The Dry Bar” because it’s super easy and syncs automatically with my iCal. It’s a super easy way to book/change/cancel your appointments without having to call in every time.

Love the gorgeous dames that line the walls! So inspirational!

2. Length of appointments vary. Although their website says that most blowouts take about 35 minutes, but my hair always take at least an hour and 15 minutes. It all depends on how long and thick your hair is…and how easily it takes to curling or straightening. I suggest leaving some wiggle room and don’t stress yourself out by fitting it into a small window of time. Relax and enjoy yourself!

Ryan - one of my fav. Bar Tenders in Pasadena!

3. Parking in Pasadena…venturing out and about in the city you never know what kind of parking you’re going to have to deal with. Luckily if you’re going to the Pasadena location (which I suggest because all the stylist and bar tenders are amazin’!) you have options! Even though they don’t have a private lot, there is plenty metered street parking on both sides of Lake Ave, but they’re only good for one hour at a time ($1/hr). Do remember, the Bar Tenders will totally feed your meter if you need them to; just be sure to tip them kindly! If you don’t mind walking a small bit (2 minutes really) you can always turn East onto Cordova and park in the huge lot behind Jamba Juice, Chipotle, and Panda Express. Here parking is FREE.

4. Tipping your Stylist/Bar Tender. Since blowouts at The Dry Bar are so reasonably priced ($35 is such an amazing price!) I think it’s perfectly acceptable to tip more than 20%. $10 is a great base to start with (around 28%)…if you absolutely LOOOOVE your hair and really enjoyed talking with your stylist I say pay it forward and tip $15. I also think it’s polite to tip the Bar Tender a few dollars too because they’re running around taking care of your drinks (and maybe even feeding your meter)!

BTW, I totally DIY’ed that key necklace. Found it at my grandpa’s house and decided to add it onto a chain…viola #instachic! #granddadstyle #i’llwearyourgranddad’sclothes My most recent visit to Dry Bar…last weekend! #lovedmystylist Claudia Seriously BEST CURLS ever!

Don’t just take my word for it…see ton’s of reviews here! Can’t wait for you to experience the wonder of The Dry Bar!! Would love to hear about your awesome experiences in the comments! Please do share photos too! Tag me in your instagram posts: @wearinla :)

With my recent discovery of Poshmark and just how easy it is to make money off of my old clothes in my closet I have also made some great purchases from other users in the app. Since the new year I’ve taken up running…okay more like jogging, but it still counts!!! As with any activity, there is a coordinating outfit, yes? I sure think so! My brand of choice is Nike – always has been, always will be! Their clothing is very durable (after many workouts and washes they still hold true color and shape)! Knowing this, I feel comfortable buying gently used Nike workout gear because I know it’ll last and it’s cute!

My recent purchases include: 2 zip up jackets ($9 & $7), a grey dri-fit tank with built in sports bra ($8) , an emerald green long sleeve tee (new with tags for only $10!), and a sassy purple “That’s all you got?” dri-fit tee ($6). I also traded an item in my closet for a long sleeve grey and pink “Just do it!” tee with another Poshmark user. For $40 I scored 6 Nike items…now that’s a steal! I paid more for just one pair of running shoes a couple weeks ago! (Which I absolutely love btw!)

Poshmark Closet Cleanse – Shop My Closet!

PoshmarkDo you have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear? I know the feeling! Around the first of the year I usually do a full cleanse of my closet and jewelry in order to make room for my new “Christmas clothes” and prepare for the upcoming change in seasons and trends. It became tradition that my mom would take my sister Jessie and I out shopping for clothes as gifts every year but we would of course have to wait until Christmas morning to open them again. I’d spend weeks dreaming of the garments I picked out, planning how to match them with what I already have, and then the morning of I’d be surprised by a few of the pieces I’d completely forgot about! Ah I love the holidays! But of course I’d have to make room for these new pieces to fit…and so began a new tradition of the “Closet Cleanse”!

In the past I’ve donated to Goodwill, shared with my younger sisters (I have two!), and even sold my clothes to second hand shops like Crossroads Trading Co. (in Pasadena, CA) and Plato’s Closet (in Colorado Springs, CO when I lived there a few years ago). I like the idea of giving a garment new life by either donating or selling to a shop where hopefully another girl will fall in love with it! This year I’m trying a new method of cleaning out my closet – I’m selling my clothes online through my new favorite site: Poshmark.

Currently for sale in my Poshmark closet

Currently for sale in my Poshmark closet

Poshmark is an iPhone app for girls like me who want to share the love of gently used fashionable items and be able to make some money for their unused clothing. This app is a lot of fun because it allows me to put up items for sale in an “instagram style” – they give you filter options for your “cover photo” of a listing. Selling with Poshmark is incredibly easy! They take care of all the behind the scenes details like payment processing, shopping, and getting your earnings to you.

My favorite feature about Poshmark is that you can throw a “Poshparty” where you and your friends (& followers…who let’s face it, are pretty much like your fashion friends!) can shop each other’s closets in a specific style or theme. Many times other bloggers have thrown parties by designers or style. My favorite parties include designers and styles like Kate Spade, JCrew, preppy, chic and cheap, Michael Kors, Chanel, LOFT, black and white, and of course all the wonderful shoe parties! Poshmark is a great way to shop other fashionable friend’s closets and share your own pieces in a sociable setting white being able to make some cash off of your cute clothes! I’m extremely excited to have been invited to host a Poshparty in the coming weeks – will definitely update on details!

To list an item is FREE and when your item sells Poshmark takes only 20% to cover the transaction fees and keep themselves up and running. After you’ve sold your items you can either use your earning as credits towards a new purchase or cash out at any time!

Pros & Cons of POSHMARK: Pros: Free to list, reaches many people, and you are able to search by style and find curated fashion parties. Cons: 20% commission is taken out when you make a sale (really not a big deal but it’s good to know!), only available on iPhones currently, & in order to get some of the best deals you have to spend a bit of time searching and negotiating with sellers.

Thanks to the Poshmark team I was able to sell off a lot of my closet by being featured as one of the “suggested users” last week. I grew from just 200 followers to 54,000+ in just 3 days! Thank you POSHMARK! :) Everyone should definitely try out Poshmark – it’s a great way to get some cash for your unused items and to find more clothes to fall in love with at unbeatable prices! Here’s some of my items that I’ve successfully sold on Poshmark:

Milla Jovovich - Vogue Paris Magazine February 2013

Milla Jovovich – Vogue Paris Magazine February 2013

Milla modeled an incredible 66 looks from the spring collections in a sixty plus page editorial set in NYC for Vogue Paris. On the cover she’s wearing Saint Laurent as photographed by Inez & Vinoodh. Sounds like another spring ’13 fashion textbook I should be picking up soon!

Anne Hathaway - Bazaar UK Magazine February '13

Anne Hathaway – Harpar’s Bazaar UK Magazine February ’13

For the Cover of Bazaar UK, one of my ultimate favorite actresses Anne Hathaway was styled by the magazine’s newest senior contributing editor Leith Clark. He dressed her in the most hollywood meets royalty of designers including: Alexander McQueen, Dior and Louis Vuitton. She got my attention in The Princess Diaries, won my heart in The Devil Wears Prada, and she continues to inspire every last bit of my passion for the culture of the arts in her most recent role in Les Miserables…and now an incredible cover and editorial feature?! Oh it it simply a dream come true! (See the behind the scenes video short here)

Constance Jablonski - Vogue Germany Magazine Feb '13

Constance Jablonski – Vogue Germany Magazine Feb ’13

Photographed by Alexi Lubomirski, this month’s issue of the Vogue Germany will transport you to a whole another era. Constance Jablonski will steal your heart in this  breathtakingly beautiful sepia toned editorial set in the 1920/30s. The story will advance you through the back stages of an old Hollywood film scene where Constance is nothing short of a star! (See more of her incredible feature here)

Ginta Lapina - Vogue Espana Magazine Feb '13

Ginta Lapina – Vogue Spain Magazine Feb ’13

Channeling a very Twiggy-esque vibe, Vogue Spain’s cover girl Ginta Lapina wears a velveteen box necked shift dress in Louis Vuitton’s classic checkerboard print. Jason Kibbler, photographer, dazzles up with an editorial in all black and white featuring Ginta in mannequin-like poses paired with distinctly oriental and modern mid-century styling. To say the least, it’s a mixed match of styles I’ve yet to see done so well. (See editorial spread here)

Poppy Delevingne - Vogue Turkey Magazine - January 2013 in Gucci

Poppy Delevingne – Vogue Turkey Magazine – January 2013

Poppy brings on the sex appeal while wearing this incredible sheer gown from Gucci’s winter collection. Photographed by Alvaro Beamud Cortes and styled by Daniela Paudice, I couldn’t help but want to strip my face of makeup and tousle my hair and go for a naturally sexy look – she’s got it down! (Check out their incredible tumblr here!)

Scarlett Johansson - Elle UK Magazine Feb '13

Scarlett Johansson – Elle UK Magazine Feb ’13

As photographed by, Italian photographer, Thomas Zanon-Larcher Scarlett Johansson lets her natural beauty shine through. Her interview shows us that this incredible Hollywood star is really just one of us and she enjoys the simple things in life just as much. (See a preview of the magazine here at ELLE UK)

Lindsey Wixson - Vogue Japan Magazine - March 2013 in Louis Vuitton

Lindsey Wixson – Vogue Japan Magazine – March 2013 in Louis Vuitton

White most of the January and February 2013 fashion magazine covers are in black and white to follow in the spring runway trends I couldn’t pass up an honorable mention of Japan Vogue featuring a supremely spring look all in green! Lindsey Wixson, a favorite of mine, graces the cover wearing Louis Vuitton in their signature checkerboard print (very hot for Spring ’13!). I especially love her barely smoking gold eyeshadow and the big ribbon bow in her hair – now those are two things I can do to cheers the incoming spring!

Which covers are you favorite this month?

Color of 2013: Emerald {On the Runway}

Who doesn’t look good in health, wealth, and harmony? Emerald Green is officially Pantone‘s Color of the Year for 2013; and I couldn’t be happier! Just a week before it was announced I was already polishing my nails in the gorgeous gem tone – no better timing than that! It’s apparent that emerald green isn’t just Pantone’s favorite hue this year – designers left and right are picking this color to bring to life their upcoming spring 2013 lines, as you can see from their runway shows back in September. I’ve gathered some of my favorite emerald ensembles from the Spring 2013 runways to inspire and share some designer love. (Designers include: Vera Wang, Burberry, Michael Kors, & Nanette Lepore.)
